LOCATED IN THE DELTA OF THE NEVA RIVER, THIS
CITY ALSO OFFERS BREATHTAKING VIEWS OF
NUMEROUS DRAW BRIDGES, OVER FORTY
ISLANDS, AND SITES FOR WHICH IT WAS
SURNAMED "THE VENICE OF THE NORTH".
Many historical themes are intertwined in this city. The beautiful buildings are often
associated with legends and stories of tsars' and tsarinas' love and political intrigues,
and your guide will be ready to share them with you as you tour the building. You can
visit the grave of the Romanov dynasty (the tsars), hear the stories of conspiracy and
revolutions (there were a total of three major ones in this city), or witness a small
historical detail of a punishment pillar, to which they used to chain disgraced soldiers,
making them stand for hours on sharp spikes driven into the ground.
The history continues from the tsars and the dark ages to the Bolshevik revolution,
which marked the time when communists put a stop to the development of capitalism in
Russia for over 300 years.
The ship Aurora, which gave a blank shot as a symbol for the beginning of the
insurrection is a great historic site to tour. You can also tour The Museum of
Revolution, which also contains many little known facts that draw a hart to fathom
picture of those times—as do many other sites associated with the life and work of
Lenin and other government leaders.
The historic evidence will give you an excellent insight into the thought,
philosophy, and development of communism, as well as show you why its fall was
unavoidably predetermined.
There are also many places associated with the Second World War and the
invasion of Hitler. Bomb explosions and gunfire happened right here in the streets of
St. Petersburg. For 90 days the city, surrounded by the enemy's troops and cut off
from the rest of the land, was freezing in sub-zero temperatures and starving, while its
citizens were trying to survive by eating glue which they had scraped off the
wallpaper. Many historical sites are preserved in memory of those times.

Although still preserving its authentic Russian culture, St. Petersburg was intended to be a
high-class, educated, European city. Its architecture reflects this mood. You will find definitely
defined styles of classicism, neo-classicism, baroque, etc. One can indeed study interior and
exterior design quite in depth just by touring the city.
The museums of St. Petersburg are filled with the art of the most famous painters of all centuries and styles: Davinci, Rafael, Michael Angelo, Picasso, etc.

The creation of the town of St. Petersburg is
immersed into mystery. They say that this city has
been founded upon the bones of its builders.
Many legends are still circulating among the local
dwellers and portray an intricate intertwine of
courage in disease infested swamps, deathly
intrigue and hard labor. The original 18th century
buildings are preserved and open for tour, ready
to tell their story through your tour-guide.

RESTAURANTS, SHOPPING AND ENTERTAINMENT

The best time to visit St. Petersburg is during the months of the famous “White Nights”. It is
the most romantic time in the life of this city. Due to the closeness of St. Petersburg's latitude to
the arctic circle, the sun doesn't go all the way down during this season, and this is why it never
gets dark at night. During the shortest - and the lightest- night of June 22, a love and romance
festival is held at midnight, as a brigantine with scarlet sail glides through the city down the Neva
river. At this time numerous music festivals are held in rock, jazz, and classical music.
The season of the Indian summer is also a very pleasant, less crowded time, colorful in its
autumn leaves, which have inspired many poets and writers. This season is good for visiting the
suburbs with their unrivaled parks and boat rides. The parks, just like the city in general, are
filled with architectural masterpieces, real gold accents, fountains (there is a special park
dedicated to fountains -- and ‘trick’, or soaker, fountains) , museums, and open-air cafés.
Winter is cold, but is still a lot of fun. You can enjoy festivals of the Russian winter and the
beauty of the snow -trimmed city, although the parks are closed.
The city of St. Petersburg is also well known for it's theaters (action, opera and ballet),
shopping, and restaurants, oftentimes designed in a specific theme of the Russian heritage,
European snobbishness, or a historic slice-of-life. This makes the dining experience not only
entertaining, but also educational.
St. Petersburg is also a vast and rich place of the living history. Its streets and buildings have
inspired the works of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, and served as the setting for their plots. They
also were the action places of Hitler's invasion and the communist revolution, and are preserved
and ready to tour.
There are also theaters, the opera and the ballet, as well as the impossible to duplicate experience of the Russian Flea Market. In other words, whether you are in the mood for a deep, intellectual experience, for a stroll in a park, a day on the beach, a cabaret, a saloon, a day of shopping, or simply a quiet visit in a friend's living room - you've got it here!

Numerous parks of St. Petersburg are not just
sites for recreation, but also contain
masterpieces of architecture, ironwork and
sculptures, some of which stand defying the
traditional rules of building design. Going to
the parks here is viewed as an esthetically
enriching, rather than a relaxation experience.
Numerous exhibitions and art shows are also
regularly held. Nevertheless, one can always
enjoy such fun activities as a boat or a pedal
boat ride, a stroll on the beach of the Gulf of
Finland, or getting soaked by a concealed
trick-fountain as a break from admiring the
golden designs of the Fountain Park. Taking a
covered jet-boat ride to the old forts or other
suburbs is another fun form of lighter
entertainment. The city also has many world
famous theaters (action, opera, and ballet), as
well as a literature cafe, where one can enjoy
their meal while listening to a presentation of
an artist.
HAVE A GREAT STAY!
GALINA'S BED AND BREAKFAST

As one of the legends has it, in an attempt to conceal the architectural secret of a beautiful building (to the construction of which only the best craftsmen were called) the tsar ordered that the eyes of all the participating builders would be poked out after its completion.
